Botox®
Botox® is the number ONE non-surgical aesthetic procedure performed in the United States to treat wrinkles in several places including frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. Botox® has also been used to treat medical conditions such as excessive underarm sweating, and TMJ disorder.
What is Botox® Cosmetic and what areas can Botox® Cosmetic treat?
Botox® is a purified protein that is isolated from Clostridium botulinum bacterium. Botox® is very effective at treating wrinkles and has been FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles in the glabellar region (frown lines). Botox® has also been used for years for wrinkles and treatment in the following areas:
Crow’s feet around the eyes
Forehead or worry lines
Bunny lines on the nose
Dimpling of the chin
Vertical neck bands
Smoker’s lines (vertical lines around the lips)
Eyebrow lift (arched eyebrows)
How does Botox® Cosmetic work?
Botox® is injected with a tiny needle into the muscle that creates the wrinkle. When Botox® is injected into the muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching the muscle and as a result, the muscle is unable to contract and weakens. As the muscle weakens, the skin overlying the muscles relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and disappear.
Is Botox® Cosmetic safe?
Botox® is an FDA approved product. Botox® protein itself is not a poison. It is modified extensively in the lab to a purified form and its concentration is diluted, making it very safe. When injected into the muscle, it is only absorbed by the muscle and the body does not absorb the protein, making it very safe.
How long before I see results?
You can start seeing results anywhere from 3-10 days.
How long does Botox® Cosmetic last?
Botox® usually lasts up to 3-4 months and sometimes longer. Some patients who have been doing Botox® for a while report that over time the interval between injections can be extended to 6 months.
Is there a risk of bruising with Botox® Cosmetic injections?
The risk of bruising is minimal, if at all. Please adhere to the pre-treatment instructions as this will further minimize the risk of bruising.
Who should not use Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® Cosmetic should not be used in the presence of an infection at the proposed injection site or in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation – including Botulinum Toxin Type A or albumin. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or anyone with a neuromuscular disorder such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton Syndrome should not be treated with Botox®.
What are some of the possible side effects of Botox®?
Some of the side effects include discomfort or bruising at injection site, headache, dry mouth, and fatigue. In rare cases, Botox® may spread to areas away from injection site and may cause eyelid drooping, blurry vision, or double vision.
Do Botox® injections hurt?
Botox® injections should not be painful. Depending on the area and technique, the feelings should range from imperceptible to mild discomfort. It should never be very painful.
Dysport®
What is Dysport®?
Along with Botox®, Dysport® is one of the most widely administered prescription cosmetic injectable for softening severe frown lines between the eyebrows without changing the look or movement of the rest of your face. The muscles are simply relaxed, delivering natural-looking results.
How does Dysport® work?
As we age, repeated movements and muscle contractions cause wrinkles. Dysport® treats the moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows by reducing specific muscle activity. Once the muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother creating a more natural relaxed appearance. Dysport® has been used for over 25 years, and is safe and very effective.
What issues does Dysport® correct?
Dysport® relaxes wrinkles and facial lines between your eyebrows, forehead, eye area, and smile lines.
Furrowed brows
Forehead lines
Crow’s feet (wrinkles at the corner of the eyes)
Bunny lines (wrinkles beside the nose)
Smile lines or laugh lines
Frown lines
Vertical lip lines
Eyebrow reshaping
Improving facial symmetry
Preventing wrinkles from deepening over time
Early prevention of the effects of aging
When will I see results from my Dysport® treatment?
You will see a noticeable improvement within 7-14 days of treatment, with results lasting 3-4 months.
How often will I need Dysport® treatments?
Because we metabolize the product at a different rate, the outcome is somewhat different for each person. Optimal results are typically achieved when treatments are received at regular intervals – around 3-4 times per year.
With ongoing treatment, many guests find they can decrease the maintenance to between 2-3 visits per year. Muscle mass, age, and desired outcome will also inform your treatment protocol.
What is treatment like?
Like Botox, Dysport® is injected directly into the facial muscles beneath the lines of the face. Usually, only 3 to 5 injections are needed to treat glabellar lines. Most people find the injections almost painless, so a local anesthetic is not usually needed. If you’re concerned, however, you can request an anesthetic (numbing) cream prior to treatment. The treatment session typically lasts less than 15 minutes. The full effect of the treatment will take several days as the muscles gradually relax.
How long do results last?
Results begin to appear within one to seven days after treatment, with day three being the median. (In other words, half the patients treated see wrinkle-smoothing results before day three, and half see results afterward.) Dysport® contains less protein than Botox®, so the body tends to break it down more slowly. The studies are mixed, however, about whether the results lasts longer than Botox®.
Are there any side effects?
It is common to feel slight heaviness or pressure in the treated area after Dysport® injections. Some people experience a mild headache on the treatment day and the day after. Slight redness and bruising may also occur at the injection site. Most people experience no side effects at all, returning back to work or their daily activities.
Juvederm®
What is Juvederm®?
Juvederm® is an injectable gel that can immediately smooth facial wrinkles and restore youthful fullness to areas of diminished volume. With age, our skin becomes thinner, drier, and loses elasticity and collagen – making it more likely to sag and wrinkle.
Sun damage, muscle movement, weight loss and gravity compound this issue. Juvederm® is uniquely formulated to treat moderate to severe wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth including smile lines, marionette lines, and vertical creases around the lips. Within three days you will see a noticeable improvement.
How does Juvederm® work?
Juvederm® contains hyaluronic acid, a sugar found naturally in our skin that helps keep the skin hydrated, supple and youthful looking. It is injected into the mid-to-deep dermis using an ultra-fine needle, replacing lost hyaluronic acid under the skin to add volume, restore structure and smooth wrinkles.
Why should volume loss matter?
Over time, your face changes in many ways. This is part of the normal aging process, but genetics and environmental factors can also play a role. You may notice a change in the appearance of your skin, typically in the form of deepening parentheses lines and wrinkles. But what may be less obvious is age-related midface volume loss.
What are the causes of parentheses lines?
Parentheses lines are static lines that appear when your face is at rest. This happens overtime as your skin loses some of the building blocks (hyaluronic acid and collagen) that give the skin its structure.
What are the most common side effects?
Tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching. Most side effects are reported mild or moderate and last 14 days or less.
Kybella®
What is Kybella®?
Kybella® (keoxycholic acid) is a manmade form of a substance your body makes that helps to absorb fats. Deoxycholic acid works by destroying fat cells where it is injected into the body.
How does Kybella® work?
When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they cannot store or accumulate fat.
What does a Kybella® treatment feel like?
The area beneath the chin is numbed beforehand so patients don’t feel the procedure. Afterwards, some patients may experience swelling, bruising, discomfort, numbness, redness, or areas of hardness in the treatment area.
Will I experience any down time?
For most patients, it is minimal and may occur after the first treatment. Many people are able to return to their normal routine. Just always keep in mind when scheduling your treatments of social plans or work events.
When will I see results?
You will see noticeable results in the weeks following your initial Kybella® treatment, with continued improvement for up to a month following the full treatment cycle.
How often will I need Kybella® treatments?
For optimal results, Kybella® treatment requires 2-3 sessions spaced approximately one month apart. After a thorough analysis, your certified injector will help you create a custom plan to meet your desired outcomes.
Restylane®
What is Restylane®?
Restylane® is a safe, natural cosmetic filler used to enhance your looks. It is specifically formulated to instantly and visibly reduce moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds by restoring volume and fullness. It will improve skin structure and elasticity.
What is a Restylane® treatment like?
Revive will evaluate which Restylane® product is suitable for your needs. Before treatment, the practitioner will discuss pain relief with you. As every person has different preferences and sensitivity, Restylane® is available both with and without integrated pain-relief. Depending on which area you will have treated, you will also have a choice of other anesthesia, such as anesthetic cream, dental block, or ice.
A treatment with Restylane® only takes about 15-30 minutes. It is performed by injecting Restylane® through a fine needle into your skin (or for some treatments just under) to fill wrinkles or add volume, shape your face or lips, or rejuvenate your skin.
How quickly will I see results from my Restylane® treatment?
Results will start to show almost immediate improvement after your Restylane® injections – usually within four days.
What to expect after a Restylane® treatment?
After treatment, you will receive post-treatment guidelines. It is normal to experience some post-treatment discomfort, such as redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising, or tenderness at the treatment site. This typically subsides after a few days, up to one to two weeks. Following treatment there is sometimes a need for a touch-up treatment to achieve an optimal result.
How long until my next Restylane® treatment?
Restylane® is naturally biodegraded, you will eventually need to repeat the treatment to maintain the result. Return visits are typically made after 6-12 months for wrinkles and within 6 months for lips.
Skin Rejuvenation
What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure used to remove the top layer of sun-damaged and dead skin cells, leaving behind a healthier, younger you. It will rejuvenate sun damaged skin, ease age spots, shrink pores, improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and improve acne scars. This procedure is painless and works quickly. Your pores will be tightened and your skin will glow, giving your face a clean and fresh feeling!
What is IPL photofacial rejuvenation?
Photorejuvenation uses pulsed light or other thermal and chemical methods to treat skin conditions and remove wrinkles that are a product of photoaging. Controlled wounds are made on the skin, which causes it to heal itself in turn by creating new cells. The process reverses the effects of photoaging somewhat. Some wrinkles will be successfully removed. The three types of skin rejuvenation are thermal rejuvenation (uses a radio-frequency device to induce a thermal effect on the skin), chemical rejuvenation (uses chemical peels), and photo rejuvenation (uses a laser, intense pulse light and light).
What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the U.S. It beams highly concentrated light into hair follicles. Pigment in the follicles absorb the light which destroys the hair. This is a wonderful treatment when you are not happy with shaving, tweezing, or waxing to remove unwanted hair.
What is laser skin tightening?
Laser skin tightening is a minimally invasive, non-surgical process that uses an infrared light source (a laser) to tighten skin by heating the collagen under the skin’s surface, causing the skin to contract (tighten). Facial skin tightening is noticeable immediately after the treatment, and there is no downtime, making this an increasingly popular procedure.
